Väva! Veve! is proud of her sister company, SMALL DOG WEAVING MILL!
Small Dog Weaving Mill offers hard-to-find weaving services to the growers of wool and other animal fiber, and growers of cellulose and silk fiber all around the Midwest. Before Small Dog Weaving Mill can get involved, the fiber must first be brought to a cottage fiber processing mill where the fiber is cleaned and spun into yarn. Small Dog Weaving Mill can then weave this local yarn into beautiful textiles. By approaching the textile industry from this point, we are succeeding in doing a number of things that are all beneficial.
We are avoiding cross-country and international shipping.
We are lowering pollution levels on a global scale by reducing the demand on countries with no oversight of agricultural or manufacturing pollution.
We are saving landfills from filling up with ‘Fast Fashion’.
We are keeping the Textile Industry at a regional level, establishing transparency throughout the ‘soil to product’ process.
We are providing much needed jobs to our neighbors and others needing employment in our country.
We are putting an emphasis on our local communities and connections and we are building our local economies by working with one of the basic building blocks of our country, the farmer.
We are bringing pride of work back to the those who deserve it by recognizing the farms which grow the fiber we weave.
We are putting some control back into our own lives.
No job is too small for Small Dog Weaving Mill.
“I had one gent call up asking how much (or how little) could he bring in. He had 2 alpaca sheered every year, and he had been saving the fiber for a few years, got it processed down in Hastings, MN and we ended up weaving him 13-14 twin sized blankets that were half linen (warp) and half pure alpaca (weft). They turned out so luxurious and beautiful!” Marian Quanbeck Dahlberg, Owner and CEO of Small Dog Weaving Mill
What about that stash of yours?!
Small Dog Weaving Mill also will weave that big garbage bag full of yarn from the local garage sale that you have had stored for the last 20 years down in the basement. You could have a beautiful piece of yard goods made up, or a heritage blanket woven from all that yarn your mom gave you that is up in the attic. What a great cascade of memories every time you get that blanket out!
Stop by! Call! Email! Text! We would love to talk to you about your next project!
