 About Us

Väva! Veve! started with a love of linen and grew!  The founder's experience as an interior designer gave her a strong background for color and design which established her linen textiles with an enthusiastic local market and grew to national levels. As an artisanal hand weaving studio, Väva! Veve! specializes in small-batch, fine linen textiles for the home, spa, yacht, and business.

With an eye focused on beauty, while incorporating function, Väva! Veve! applies a unique blend of Old-World techniques, using twill weave structures for a denser, absorbent and substantial cloth, with cold mangling as the finishing touch, creating distinctive textiles with a rich and beautiful visual impact, and a high degree of practicality.

We chose linen for its sustainability and sturdiness, being incredibly suited for use in towels.  It becomes 20% stronger when wet!  It can absorb up to 20% of its own weight in water and still feel dry to the touch!  It quickly absorbs moisture and releases it rapidly, making for fast drying!  Väva! Veve! weaves many sizes of pure linen towels, including Face Cloths, Hand Towels, Spa Towels, Bath Towels, and Bath Sheets. In addition to the popular Towels, Väva! Veve! also weaves tabletop items including assorted sizes of Table Runners, Placemats and Napkins, Pillow Covers, and Throws, all from their production studio now located in western Wisconsin.

Väva! Veve! places a strong emphasis on quality and craftsmanship, utilizing the best of what the linen fiber has to offer, finding beauty in this natural sustainable fiber, while objecting to ‘fast fashion’ with its heavy use of petrol-based fibers, or fibers requiring heavy doses of chemicals or water to grow. In keeping with these ethics of sustainability, Väva! Veve! continues to produce fabric by hand on vintage wooden floor looms, with skilled artisans weaving one thread at a time, creating sumptuous bespoke fabrics. Their work can be applied to a variety of contexts, and they are available for design work and commissions.

To further their efforts of sustainability, Väva! Veve! is actively involved in researching the growth of flax for fiber in the United States, finding local or at least same-continent sources for milling machinery, and exploring the viability of blending various natural fibers with linen. Currently, the U.S. has only experimental flax production for fiber. Because this industry left the U.S. completely, with the last flax mill closing in the 1930’s, it is an issue of highest priority to repatriate this industry, bringing a highly sustainable industry back to the U.S.
